Creating a presentation is a key element for many positions these days whether you’re an executive, speaker, or working in a professional setting. 1 Be consistent

Let your audience take in a presentation that’s easy on the eyes and flows from slide to slide. Jarring the presentation with multiple images isn’t necessary. Creating a style that works with your content and not against it is important.

Some tips for consistency:

    • Use the same ‘banner’ or title font throughout your design.
    • Use the same ‘frame’ or ‘grid’ throughout your design.
    • Use the same background throughout your design.
    • Use consistent fonts

2Work smarter, not harder

Create a template page for your presentation to keep all the points above about consistency in line. Take a cue from nature with beauty in repetition. Making one fantastic slide and repeating enables the viewer to pick up other elements of your presentation without having to rethink each slide separately.

3Creating your title page

Your title slide is your calling card for the whole presentation and should be bold while conveying the feeling of your overall presentation. Give people a reason to click through the presentation if they find it on SlideShare or another place apart from your live presentation.

4Design for visual appeal

Use the old adage: Keep it simple, sweetie or KISS and don’t overcomplicate your presentation. More elements aren’t necessarily more design – this can be visual clutter. KISS your way to success with these tips:

  • Using visuals instead of text
  • Reducing the amount of text
  • Using a consistent color palette
  • Don’t use bullet points – try putting one point per slide

5Download your design

Once you’re happy with your presentation, save as a .pdf. Then you’re ready to knock them dead at your next event. A great way to get more use from your presentations is uploading them to SlideShare and sharing them on social media platforms. This will help educate and inform your audience but could also help get more speaking gigs in the future so it’s a win/win for you.
